John A. Petrie, CMKBD has been working in the kitchen and bath industry since 1987. Petrie has over 20 years experience in designing custom kitchens, bathrooms, home offices, wine cellars and home theaters. His early education was in architectural design, but his defining specialty and advanced training has been in kitchens and baths. Petrie is the owner of MH Custom Cabinetry in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and has served the Susquehanna Valley Chapter of the NKBA as Treasurer, Vice President of Communications, and President, currently holding the title of Chapter Representative. Petrie is also very involved in his local community, having served on the Board of Directors for the Chamber of Commerce and as President of the Rotary Club of Mechanicsburg. |  |
Michael Kopman Fried Email:
Michael Kopman Fried is a principal of Viking Kitchen Cabinets, LLC in New Britain, Connecticut. He is a graduate of the University of Connecticut and is currently pursuing a Masters of History at Trinity College in Hartford. Kopman Fried has served on the Advisory Council of Wholesale Distributors as Chair and now as the Board of Directors’ Representative. He has also served on the executive board of his synagogue and is a Connecticut regional board member for the Anti-Defamation League. |  |
William J. Tobin Email:
William J. Tobin has served as Director of Marketing Services for Wood-Mode Custom Cabinetry for over 20 years, with responsibilities for the company’s national advertising, publicity, public relations, dealer marketing support programs and website. Tobin has also served on the NKBA Advisory Council of Manufacturers. A native of New York City, Tobin holds an undergraduate degree in Business Administration and Marketing from Manhattan College, with post-graduate study at Columbia University. Prior to joining Wood-Mode, he held many key positions as a professional marketer in the furniture and financial industries. He is a member of the American Marketing Association and the International Furnishings and Design Association. |  |
Michael Alba Email:
Michael Alba has been in the kitchen and bath business since the early 1980s. As a general contractor, he saw kitchen remodeling as way to keep busy when the weather was too inclement to work outdoors. Alba soon developed a passion for his work and opened his first kitchen showroom in Lindenhurst, New York in 1984. Shortly afterwards, Alba joined the NKBA and has stayed very involved with the South Florida Chapter ever since. Alba has served in several chapter offices, including Chapter President. |  |

John Morgan is a veteran of the kitchen and bath industry with 20 years of experience. He is a manufacturer’s representative, consultant and trainer serving on the advisory councils of three major companies. Morgan’s agency currently represents nationally-known cabinet and technology companies. He has been recognized by industry publications and is currently entering his sixth year as a columnist for Kitchen & Bath Design News magazine, writing the “Rep’s View.” As an NKBA member, he has served on the Advisory Council of Manufacturers’ and has participated in NKBA events since 1985. Morgan is the current Board of Director’s Representative for the Advisory Council of Manufacturers’ Representatives. |  |

Paul W. Royal, CKD Email:
Paul Royal, CKD entered the kitchen and bath business in 1985 and obtained his CKD certification in 1995. Royal started a subchapter in Alaska in 2001. Now a full chapter, Royal is a past president and previously held the title of Vice President of Communications for the chapter. He is currently on the NKBA Advisory Council of Multi-Branch Retailers/Home Centers and is the Council’s Representative to the NKBA Board of Directors. He is also on the Board of Directors for the Northwest Chapter of Brand Source. Currently, Royal is a Division Manager for Spenard Builders Supply, a division of Pro-Build Holdings. |  |

Dr. Phyllis Markussen, CKE, CBE is a professor and Department Chair of Interior Design at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. She has been an NKBA member and coordinator for the NKBA endorsed program since 1990. Dr. Markussen has received an NKBA merit award and was inducted into the NKBA Hall of Fame in 2004. Dr. Markussen has served on many NKBA national committees, boards, and advisory councils, including the Legislative Committee and Advisory Council of Designers. She is currently the Vice President of Endorsed Colleges for the NKBA Nebraska/Kansas Chapter. |  |

Lora Donoghue, CKD, CBD is a showroom manager for HADCO, a distributor of high-end appliances. She previously owned a kitchen and bath design and remodeling company. Donoghue has served in every local NKBA chapter position for the Eastern Carolinas Chapter. She brings 24 years of kitchen and bath industry experience to the NKBA Board of Directors. |  |
Dorothy Harter, CKD,CBD Email:
Dorothy Harter, CKD, CBD has 30 years of experience in construction, the last 20 years focusing on kitchen and bath design and installations. As an independent designer, she teamed with architects, interior designers and contractors. For the past 13 years, Harter has worked with Home Depot as an In-Home Design Consultant, Outside Designer and Project Manager for installations. Harter has been active with the NKBA since 1992, earning both her CKD and CBD in 1995. She has held positions on the Columbia River Chapter board since 1997, serving as Vice President of Professional Development and Programs, President and Chapter Representative. |  |
Deleigh Van Deursen, CKD,CBD, NCIDQ Email:
Deleigh Van Deursen CKD, CBD started her career with an Environmental Design degree from Radford University. She continued her education with a Masters Certificate in Instructional Design from Mary Mount University. Van Deursen has worked in the industry in kitchen and bath design, sales, showroom design as well training and development. She has served on the Advisory Board for the Center for Real Life Kitchen Design for Virginia Polytechnic University for the past eight years, and has held four different officer positions with NKBA’s Baltimore Washington Chapter. Van Deursen serves on NKBA’s National Board of Directors as the Regional Director for Region 3. She currently works in Northern Virginia for R. Bratti and Associates as well as teaches Design for Westwood College. |  |

Alan Zielinski, CKD is the president and CEO of Better Kitchens, Inc., which is a second generation design firm that has produced quality kitchens and baths for over 50 years. Recently, Better Kitchens, Inc. was selected as one of the industry’s Top Leaders in the Kitchen & Bath Design Survey by Interior Design Magazine. Zielinski is an extremely talented and creative designer, with great technical knowledge after over 25 years of kitchen and bath industry experience. He holds credentials as a CKD and is very active within the NKBA, having completed terms as chapter president and national director. Zielinski has been a judge for both the NARI Contractor of the Year Award and the NKBA Design Visions Award. Annually, he has the distinguished pleasure to present the “Edmund L. Zielinski, CKD Memorial Award” for “Excellence in Design” to the top kitchen and bath designer. |  |

Janice Stone Thomas, CKD Email:
Janice Stone Thomas, CKD has been involved in the kitchen and bath industry for more than 29 years. After many years of working on projects for health care offices, banking institutions, sports clubs and hospitality, she decided to focus primarily on residential work. Thomas holds a California Contractor’s license and earned her Certified Kitchen Designer appellation from the NKBA. She is the principal of Stone Wood Design, Inc. in Sacramento, California. |  |

Sally Ann Sullivan, CKD has been creating unique kitchens and baths for over 25 years. A graduate of the University of Nebraska and member of the NKBA Advisory Council of Dealers, Sullivan actively supports the independent kitchen dealer network of the NKBA, as well as fellow members of the National Association of Home Builders. Sullivan has lectured on design at several universities and in a community service forum. Her articles have been featured in newspaper and trade publications, and her work has been showcased in numerous design books. Sullivan owns a product showroom featuring custom handmade cabinetry. |  |

Martha Terrell Kerr, CMKBD Email:
Martha Terrell Kerr, CMKBD is one of the top women executives in the kitchen and bath industry. Kerr started her career at the Neil Kelly Company in 1969. She spent three years managing remodeling projects and setting up educational programs for the company. In 1972, she started designing and selling, and her career has been filled with outstanding achievements ever since. In 1989, Kerr became the first person to receive NKBA’s Certified Bathroom Designer (CBD) appellation. She was the first female president of the NKBA, an honor which she held from 1985 to 1986. She was inducted into the NKBA Hall of Fame in 1995. Kerr has held chapter officer positions in the NKBA Northwest States Chapter and has also been a member of several committees on the NKBA national level. She has contributed to many trade and consumer magazines and her work has been featured in the NKBA Design Idea Center at K/BIS. Kerr has also been an NKBA instructor of advanced kitchen and bath design programs. She now serves on NKBA’s Board of Directors representing the Advisory Council of Builders/Remodelers. |  |

Lynda M. Wilhelmus, CMKBD has been working as a kitchen and bath designer for 29 years. She has been active with the NKBA since 1980. Wilhelmus has held numerous offices, including President of both the Indiana Chapter and Ohio Valley Chapter of the NKBA. She has also served as Chairman of the Society of Certified Kitchen and Bath Designers. In addition, Wilhelmus held the title of Chairman of the Professional Development Committee and has served on the NKBA Marketing Committee and Ad Hoc Endorsed Program Committee. She is currently a member of the Hall of Fame Committee and is Chapter Representative for the Ohio Valley Chapter. She is a past winner of the NKBA Design Competition, as well as the Maytag Excellence in Kitchen Design Contest. Phillip M Rothschild, CKD Email:
Phillip Rothschild, CKD started his career as a carpenter, building home additions, kitchens and baths, in the late 1960s. He went on to work for kitchen and bath dealers until 1985 when he started his own company, P.D. Builders, Inc., which specializes in the remodeling of kitchens and baths. Rothschild joined the NKBA in 1978 and continued to grow his remodeling business. During the late 1980s, he served on the board of his local chapter, and has served in every position on that board since then. Rothschild is in the process of opening a new state-of-art kitchen and bath showroom called Visions Design Center, which will be opening up during 2008. |  |
