About 79% of employees at kitchen & bath dealerships respond sell and design kitchens and baths for a living; 5.3% do sales only, 1.3% do design only, and the remaining 14.5% do something else (office manager, bookkeeper, etc.). Employees who do sales and/or design average $47,814 per year and work an average of 43 hours per week ($21 per hour), while those who don't sell and/or design average $35,003 and work an average of 41 hours a week ($16 per hour).

Some 22% of employees are paid straight salary, while the remainder is paid in whole or part by commission. Commission is a strong motivator. Employees who sell and are paid in whole or part by commission earn $51,186 on average, and account for $689,102 in average sales. Employees who sell, but are paid straight salary earn $38,259 on average and account for $420,000 in average sales.

Some 48% of employees report they are paid commission based on price. The average commission paid on price is reported at 5.5%.

About 30% of employees say they are paid commission based on gross profit, with the average paid reported as 8.0%. Sixteen percent say they are paid commission based on net profit, with the average commission reported as 13.1%. The remainder are paid commission based on some other method (usually a sliding scale), with the average commission paid reported as 11.7%.

Just over 35% of employees report receiving a raise during 2006, and about 19% say they got one last year. Average raise reported was $2,973. Employees report receiving an average of 8 vacation days, 3 sick days and 4 paid holidays.

About 52% of employees received a Christmas or year-end bonus in 2005, with the average received $718. Just over 11% say they received a performance bonus, averaging $2,403.

Just 4.6% of employees say they have a company car, and just 9.9% have use of company vehicles in off-hours.

The average employee works for a company that has been in business 18 years, and has been in the kitchen bath industry personally for 10 years. More than a third of the employees responding have been in the industry less than five years.

Employees who have been in the industry less than ten years earn an average of $38,055; those who have been in the industry between ten and 19 years earn an average of $51,539, and employees who have been in the industry 20 years or more an earn an average of $72,979.
