The average salary reported for managers at kitchen and bath dealerships was $65,618, and they supervised an average of six workers. Some 73% of managers sell and design, while 27% do neither.
Long hours pay off. Dealer managers who work fewer than 46 hours a week average $55,224, while those who work 46 hours per week or more average $78,457.
Managers supervising fewer than six employees average $58,939 per year, and 83% of those managing smaller staffs sell and design. Managers supervising six or more average $79,159 per year, and just 46.4% of those sell and design.
However, managers who do no sales and design average $57,123 per year, managers who sell and design average $68,859 per year.
More than half of managers responding report receiving straight salary; the remaining 49% receive salary or draw plus some sort of commission. About 37% are paid commission on some sort of sliding scale or other formula. Thirty percent are paid commission on net profit, 20% on gross profit, and 13% on price.
Managers report receiving an average 17.8% commission based on net profit, 10.3% based on gross profit; and 7.1% based on price. Those receiving a complex commission based on formulas report an average received of 20.1%.
About three-quarters of managers reported a raise last year or this, with the average received $6,602. Manager respondents reported an average of 12 vacation days, five sick days and six paid holidays in 2005.
Some 58% of managers received a Christmas or year-end bonus in 2005, averaging $1,875. Just over 29% got a performance bonus, averaging $6,337.
About 15% of managers say they have a company car, and 30% have use of a company vehicle during off-hours.
Managers report an average of 12 years in the industry; the companies they work for have been in business 17 years.
