About FCCLA
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a non-profit national career and technical student organization for young men and women in Family and Consumer Sciences Education in public and private schools through grade 12. Everyone is part of a family, and FCCLA is the only national Career and Technical Student Organization with the family as its central focus. Since 1945, FCCLA members have been making a difference in their families, careers, and communities by addressing important personal, work, and societal issues through family and consumer sciences education.
Today over 220,000 members in nearly 7,000 chapters are active in a network of associations in 50 states as well as in the District of Columbia, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. Chapter projects focus on a variety of youth concerns, including teen pregnancy, parenting, family relationships, substance abuse, peer pressure, environment, nutrition and fitness, teen violence, and career exploration. Involvement in FCCLA offers members the opportunity to expand their leadership potential and develop skills for life--planning, goal setting, problem solving, decision making, and interpersonal communication--necessary in the home and workplace.
About the NKBA
The National Kitchen & Bath Association is a trade organization that provides leadership and direction for the more than 40,000 members working in the kitchen and bath industry.
The National Kitchen & Bath Association is a partial sponsor of this year’s Interior Design-Star Event.
Why did the Association form the partnership?
The Association hopes that the sponsorship of this year’s Star Event Interior Design Competition will give students a greater awareness of the fascinating careers in the kitchen and bath industry, as well as colleges and universities that offer kitchen and bath design, and help students learn to plan using the NKBA Planning Guidelines.
FCCLA Star Event
The Association is honored to be a part of the FCCLA Interior Design Star Event. This year’s star event asks students to prepare a file folder, an oral presentation, and visuals. Students must adhere to the National Kitchen & Bath Association Seating and Traffic Standards. These standards developed by the NKBA are procedures to ensure proper planning when designing residential spaces. The NKBA Seating and Traffic Standards can be found within the collection of guidelines identified as NKBA Guideline 8 & 9. Click here to view the NKBA Planning Guidelines.
NKBA’s Cluster Meeting Presentation
Students will learn about opportunities in the industry and the many benefits provided by the National Kitchen & Bath Association including the NKBA Planning Guidelines for kitchens and baths. The presentation highlights the proper traffic and seating clearances, Guidelines 8 & 9, using the Association’s wining entries from the professional design competition. These guidelines are part of the requirements for this year’s FCCLA Interior Design Star Event scenario. To download the presentation, click here.
